How Does YnM Weighted Blanket Change The Quality Of My Sleep

If you’re a light sleeper, have trouble dozing off, or just generally like the “safe” feeling of being under heavy covers, a weighted blanket may change your sleep for the better. It did for me. Since the first time I tried mine, I  noticed a huge change in the quality of my sleep . This is a type of therapy that almost anyone can benefit from. DTPS can mimic the feeling of being hugged, swaddled or cradled. DTPS also triggers the production of the “feel-good hormone” serotonin, which calms anxiety, relieves stress, and can even lull them into a sound sleep. 

I do suffer from anxiety that seems to make itself known as I am trying to drift off to sleep. I wouldn’t consider myself diagnosed with anxiety, but I do get overwhelmed easily.  I have no issues falling asleep, but I sleep really light and wake up to EVERYTHING! It’s not unusual for me to wake up two or three times a night for 20-25 minutes at a time. I used to rely on melatonin tablets, but they would sometimes work too well, causing me to oversleep or be so groggy I was incapable of working productively in the morning. Melatonin also tended to give me nightmares, which brings on a whole different kind of anxiety. I needed another solution.

After a little bit of Googling, I found the highly rated YnM weighted blanket 2.0 on Amazon. It comes in a variation of sizes and weights, and since my partner wasn’t interested in sleeping under one with me, I went with a $80 twin size version weighing 15lbs (the other options are 12lbs and 20lbs). While the company recommends choosing a blanket weight equal to 10-13% of your body weight, I just picked the one I wanted and so far, so good. Each model is made of 100% breathable natural cotton, and pockets are filled with hypo-allergenic, non-toxic, odorless glass beads. And the vendor,YnM, as one of Amazon Best Sellers, known for its best price and high quality of their blankets, got 4.5 out of 5 stars and over 3000 reviews. The $80 twin size blanket is the best deal I can find ever on Amazon. 

Then I  ordered the  YnM weighted blanket 2.0 on Amazon and got it by mail several days later. I carried it at least 10 minutes to my car and my arm was sore the next day. It is really a heavy blanket!  I wasn’t sure what to expect upon opening it — but I spread it out on my couch to take a closer look. The blanket is the size of a twin-sized throw, and not the size of a full comforter.

To start, I positioned myself under the blanket while watching TV on my couch. I didn’t notice any sort of immediate change in how I was feeling physically or mentally, but I did feel comfortable and secure. I decided that the true test would be how I felt after actually sleeping under the blanket, so that night I spread it out on my bed and prepared to position myself beneath it ready for my beauty sleep. And I had one of the best sleeps I can recall in my whole life. I will absolutely be using this blanket with it regularly going forward, and I can only hope that I’ll continue to experience an enhanced sleeping experience.

Also, I would like to remind you please don’t compare weighted blankets to lifting weights. That said, this isn’t the correct approach. Why? Well, holding a 10 pound dumbbell in either hand is drastically different from having a 20 lb blanket lying on top of your body. Your blanket is pulling your entire body down. It never felt too heavy. Insead, it feels like a nice, gentle love tap and not like a heavy burlap sack on your body.

All of this being said, I absolutely recommend getting yourself a weighted blanket to help your anxiety your anxiety-related insomnia! If you struggle with stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, a weighted blanket could be exactly what you need to improve the situation!
