Try a Weighted Blanket When You Don’t Have a Lot of Time to Sleep
For many of us that run small business, or are just extremely busy people with a lot on our plate, we all wish that we didn’t have to sleep. However, we all know how important sleep is, pulling late nights and all-nighters usually just makes us more and more tired, which is why we can’t skip it all together.
But, there are ways to make your sleep more efficient. In fact, research shows it’s not the number of hours you get that matters the most — it’s the quality of the hours you’re getting. Getting higher quality sleep will significantly affect your productivity throughout the next day. Many people don’t get the full recommended eight hours of sleep every night but they’re still able to have high productivity levels. This means that you don’t need to be confined to those 8 hours, the key is that they maximize the benefits from the few hours of sleep they do get. There are many ways you can use to improve your sleep quality, that means you can sleep less and feel energetic throughout the day. Among them, a weighted blanket is absolutely a power tool to make your sleep count In less time.
In the last few years, as a hot sleep product, weighted blankets have become more mainstream, with rave reviews touting their many benefits. More companies are making them, and the media is promoting them as helpful for stress, trouble sleeping, and as great gifts. The reason for this mass acceptance is because more and more people have realized they are great in helping overcome typical sleep issues and anxieties.
Like the name indicates, weighted blankets are made with added weight so that they feel heavier than a typical blanket. Weighted blankets work through Deep Pressure Touch therapy(DTP) – If you have ever cuddled under a fluffy down blanket, or you feel calm and relaxed while zipped up in a heavy sleeping bag, you have probably already experienced the benefits of Deep Pressure Touch therapy. While light touches can alert the nervous system, deep pressure (such as a good massage or tight and heavy blanket) has a relaxing, calming effect on the body. According to the Journal of Sleep Medicine and Disorders, studies have shown that weighted blankets help people fall asleep faster and get more deep sleep.
Weighted blankets come in different weights. And it’s important to pick one that’s heavy enough for your body. But you also don’t want one that’s too heavy. The ideal weighted blanket should be about 10% of your body weight plus an extra couple of pounds. Since I weigh about 125 pounds, I chose a blanket that was 15 pounds. 10% if 125 is 12.5 plus 2 extra pounds equals about 15 pounds.
My experience of using a weighted blanket
I have been working as a freelancer. I am quite busy everyday, so I can sleep at most 6 hours every night. Two months ago, I decided to invest in a weighted blanket to improve my sleep quality.
However finding the right blanket on internet was a bit overwhelming since there were so many to choose from. I ultimately opted for a Twin Size YnM Weighted Blanket 2.0 (15 lbs, 48 x 72 inches). In the end, that was the right choice.
The twin size YnM blanket is made from super-soft, 100% cotton-fabric blankets filled with thinner polyfill and premium glass beads. The price for the twin size blanket is only US$70, the best deal I can find on Amazon. In addition, despite being significantly heavier than most blankets, YnM 2.0 is not a pain to clean as it is completely machine washable. Plus, YnM is one of Amazon Best Sellers, known for its best prices, high quality and good reviews. YnM got 4.4 out of 5 stars and over 3000 customer reviews on Amazon.
Each night I get into bed as usual and drape the blanket over the duvet cover and over my body, from my toes to my shoulders. I was falling asleep faster with less tossing and turning to get comfortable and relaxed. I was staying asleep through the night. Since I don’t bring it with me when I travel (kind of heavy), I am more aware of the difficulties I have trying to get to sleep and stay asleep without the help of the blanket.
Also, my dog loves the blanket. I just thought this was funny. My dogs were absolutely obsessed with this blanket which meant I had to share. They weren’t ever allowed under the blanket since it weighs more than they do, but they loved curling up on it. Unlike most of my clothes, the dog fur incredibly barely stuck to the cotton. That’s a big win for dog parents!
