How to Choose a Weighted Blanket? A Buying Guide

Dec 20, 2023

Numerous studies have shown the positive impact of weighted blankets on sleep quality. But with the wide variety of weighted blankets available in the market, making the right selection can be a difficult task. In YNM, there are over 20 types. How do you choose the ideal one for your needs? It’s seems hard to choose. Don't worry, this article is here to guide you toward the perfect choice.

Choose the Filling

To start, it's essential to determine your preference between glass bead-filled or knitted weighted blankets. Glass beads weight blanket is usually about function, not aesthetics. However, you have the option to purchase a duvet cover, which allows you to alter the appearance of the weighted blanket to match the season or your home's aesthetic preferences while also extending its lifespan. In contrast, knitted weighted blankets are not only visually appealing but also contribute to home decor. It’s good for hot sleeper as it offer enhanced breathability.

YNM 2.0 and 3.0 Weighted Blanket

Initially, when the glass beads weighted blankets came out, the compartment size containing the glass beads was 8x8 inches. After a few years, there was a modification to version 2.0, reducing the compartment size to 5x5 inches. In 2023, YNM further upgraded the technology and received a patent, reducing the size to 2x2 inches, introducing the "YNM 3.0 exclusive line." This advancement effectively prevents weight shifting and eliminates the risk of bead leakage, ensuring a consistent and even weight distribution across the entire blanket.

Choose the Size and Weight

For Individual Adult Use

Everyone’s feeling is different. However, the majority tend to favor a weighted blanket that is approximately 10% of their body weight. To accommodate different needs, YNM offer two sizes: 48x72 inch and 60x80 inch, suitable for single adult use, and a range of weights, including 12lb, 15lb, 17lb, 20lb, and 25lb.

When using a 48x72 inch size, the weighted blanket will give you a heavier sensation compared to sleeping under a 60x80 inch or 80x87 inch blanket with the same weight. This occurs because the larger size disperses the concentration of glass beads weight across your body, making it feel lighter.

If you're new to using a weighted blanket, it's advisable to start with a lighter weight. For example, if your weight is 130lb, consider trying the 12lb option before opting for the 15lb one.

The information provided above pertains to glass bead weighted blankets. In the case of knitted weighted blankets, they are woven with threads and do not contain glass beads. Consequently, their weight is distributed extremely evenly, without any concentration on the user. As a result, people accustomed to glass bead weighted blankets may find that knitted one feel lighter at the same weight. Therefore, you have the option to select a slightly heavier knitted weighted blanket for a comparable experience.

For Kid Use

YNM provides glass beads weighted blankets in sizes 36x48 inch and 41x72 inch, with weight options of 5lb, 7lb, and 10lb specifically designed for children. Some of the designs have cute printed patterns like penguins. For safety considerations, it is important that the child can independently remove the weighted blanket. If can’t, don’t use it. Consult with a doctor to ensure if it can help your child or not.

For Couple Use

If you and your partner share a similar weight and sleep on a king-size bed, the 80x87 size is an option, representing approximately 70% of your combined weight. However, due to feedback that the 80x87 size glass bead weighted blanket may not hang well beside the bed, we have introduced the extra-large 88x104 size to address this concern.

Our Exclusive Glass Beads weighted blanket line offers options in the 88x104 size. For the 80x87 size, you can explore our Knitted weighted blanket line. Due to the ductility of the chunky yarn used, the 80x87 knit weighted blanket will drape gracefully on either side of a king-size bed slightly, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

If there is a significant weight difference between two individuals, it is advisable not to share the same weighted blanket. Instead, it is recommended to use separate blankets tailored to each person's specific weight preference.
